Thursday 24th December – walk ***** – Hemley circuit – cloudy, mild
and still:)
Had a bit of a disaster on Wednesday, after run of gloomy days there was a
fantastic sunrise so I took my lovely Fuji X-T1 down to the pier here at
Felixstowe to capture it, after getting some nice shots my tripod fell over
breaking both my camera and lens, to say I was gutted is a complete
understatement! My absolutely amazing wife Maggie calmed me down and said
just go online and buy another which I did, in fact it was delivered the
next day:) The poor old pension took a real hammering but apart from
windsurfing photography is my second big obsession and I go nowhere without
my camera so find it very hard to be without one! Our small number of
premium bonds are now close to being cashed in and equity release is
another step closer but hey you can’t take it with you:) Then Robert and
I headed over to Levington yesterday hoping to windsurf foil but it was
very cold with very light winds but I did manage to get a pic I took on a
walk to Loompit Lake on the local TV weather, that’s 35 for the year,
getting at least one on every month, I like sending pics in every day! How
for today, I sorted my new camera/lens out, Mag made a sandwich and we
drove over to one of our favourites, Hemley Church for lunch:) Sitting in
the van opposite the church under the trees we were soon joined by loads of
Long tailed tits in fact there were several varieties of birds flitting
about, that’s the good thing about this time of year, no leaves which
means you can see the birds! As we were setting off on our walk a man
arrived with three really well-trained springer spaniel gun dogs in the
back of his landrover, he headed straight down to the river so we turned
right to do the country lane first having it nearly all to ourselves. It
was a little slippery underfoot and we were hoping to spot a barn owl,
sadly he was not about but there was a marsh harrier over by the reed beds
with the sound of honking geese! At Kirton creek the tide is very high with
some fantastic reflections made by the clouds as we walk back along the
River Deben path quickly bump into the man with the dogs. He is training
them by throwing a toy bird over to an island and the dogs take it in turns
retrieving it, we were impressed and have never seen such well-trained dogs
and we had a lovely chat before continuing. There were large flocks out
over the river which was like a mill pool, mainly lapwings but other waders
too! We have a make a small detour as the path was flooded due to the high
tide but made it back to the van after a top walk enjoying the best that
Suffolk has to offer. Eight miles home for Christmas cake and a cuppa with
a real fire and our two gorgeous cats Benny and Rue.
Mag and I are by ourselves on Christmas day, the weather is not looking
great, breeze and maybe rain, I am tempted to head to Levington for a
windsurf as have always wanted to do that, will see in the morning, then we
are getting together with our boys from the 28th hopefully, depending on
what Boris has to say after Christmas!
PS – I am just so pleased with the first pics taken with the new camera,
love it:)
